Affiliate Marketing: Top Reasons Why Being An Online Entrepreneur ...

If there?s one thing that I?m surprised that I ended up involved in, it?s affiliate marketing on the web. I guess I?m surprised as it wasn?t in my 5 year plan at any point but it?s actually ended up being one of the most liberating and satisfying income generating jobs that I?ve ever done.

Here are my reasons why I love it ? if you are already involved in affiliate marketing then I?m sure you?ll recognise these and if you?re not ? then it?s time to consider if you?d like a piece of this for yourself.

There?s time for me
There?s not only time for me, I can choose when I take it. I love to windsurf and if the wind?s up when I wake in the morning, then I can shift my calendar around and take to the waves. If I had a job working for somebody else ? there is no way that I could do that.

There?s no commute
This alone adds so much more time to my day. I?m less stressed and I can help my wife out with dinner. There?s a lot that can be done when you?re not sitting in a car for hours on end stuck on the M25.

Low risk, low investment
Selling products no longer means that you need a big investment in stock. Informational products are just files, I don?t need a warehouse, delivery vehicles and nor do I need to hire shop assistants to help me sell. I just need to pay out for my domain names, my hosting and I can do a lot of the marketing myself. There?s not a lot to pay out nor lose if I want to change direction.

My effort goes into my business
Years back when I worked for somebody else I used to find it frustrating that I could even make myself ill putting effort into the business that I worked for. It probably benefited me in that I kept my job, got promotions and increased the security of the business ? but overall it didn?t get me that far. All the effort that I put in now is building my affiliate marketing business and increasing its value. I benefit from increased income that doesn?t have a glass ceiling.

My knowledge is growing rapidly
Every day I learn something new. I?m gaining knowledge in technology, affiliate marketing and online marketing techniques, business growth strategies and I love it! It keeps me interested and passionate in what I?m doing and it keep?s my brain stimulated. At any age ? that can only be a good thing.

My business can only get bigger
In December 2011 it was reported that only 32.7% of the planet?s population in online. I love that! It means that as more people come online I can make even more money. It means that I?ll never be out of a job or an income. I grow my business every week and make its online presence bigger ? so more people can find it.

So what I?ve listed here are just a few reasons why I love working online and being involved in affiliate marketing. I?m sure there are many reasons that I?ve left off the list, but I?m also sure that you can see what?s appealing about this excellent form of income.

Cuban opera singer challenges "jealous" bureaucrats over closed theater

HAVANA (Reuters) - The Cuban government has closed a privately run cultural center, causing consternation among artists and intellectuals in what is shaping up to be the latest test of President Raul Castro's loosening of controls over everyday life.

A week ago government inspectors burst into the El Cabildo cultural center to the shock of patrons, artists and staff attending musical performed by its theater company, the "Opera in the Street."

The local authorities, citing a recent Reuters story on the center that mentioned a cover charge for customers, took away El Cabildo's license on the grounds of "illicit enrichment."

The vast majority of El Cabildo's clients were Cuban, paying a 50-peso cover charge, the equivalent of $2, while foreigners paid more.

The inspectors searched El Cabildo for hours and interrogated its young artists and restaurant staff, but found nothing more amiss than two cooks working on a trial basis without proper papers, employees said.

A protest letter circulating among members of Cuba's National Union of Artists and Writers, and written by owner Ulises Aquino, defends the cultural center against the enrichment charges and instead turns the tables on unnamed bureaucrats.

"The poet says: 'who questions the honorable, clearly signals that he is not,' and a proverb says, 'The thief thinks that everyone is the same as he,'" Aquino's letter said.

Officials at the Cuban government's press office did not immediately respond to a request seeking an official explanation for El Cabildo's closure.

STATE BUREAUCRATS UNDER ATTACK

For many within Cuba's cultural and intellectual circles, the cultural center's fate has become a litmus test of efforts by Castro to grow the state's small private sector while drastically reducing the state bureaucracy.

Since taking over for his ailing older brother Fidel in 2008, Raul Castro, 81, has liberalized regulations for small businesses and farming, and begun leasing small state retail outlets to employees.

Aquino, a 50-year-old opera singer, founded the theater company Opera in the Street in 2006, and taking advantage of loosened regulations on small business and government encouragement of local development projects, opened El Cabildo as a permanent venue for the youthful troupe.

A staunch advocate of socialism, Aquino charged in his letter that the forces behind the closing of his center were "jealous" of its success.

"Those who fear that the worker, the intellectual and the artist might find their own productive road are not revolutionaries, they are conservatives," he wrote.

"They enjoy the benefits of power that gives them the ability, as in this case, to decide the destiny of human works, not to help them flourish, but to destroy them," Aquino charged.

The Reuters story characterized El Cabildo as "perhaps the largest private business in Havana," with the Opera of the Street's 86 artists and support staff, plus 43 other employees in its bar and restaurant.

After the article appeared, the Communist Party's Ideology Department phoned Aquino to ask how El Cabildo worked.

Aquino told reporters that he provided a full explanation and believed all was well, only to be raided by a "commando" of inspectors later in the week.

BUILT FROM SCRATCH

Aquino, a stocky, barrel-chested man who has a powerful baritone voice onstage but speaks softly when he is off, built from scratch the eclectic theater company that mixes traditional opera with Cuban song and dance and popular music from abroad.

He also built the cultural center, investing his savings earned abroad as an opera singer, on the ruins of a collapsed building in Playa, one of Havana's relatively well off districts.

Reuters also had reported that El Cabildo's proceeds were shared after expenses, taxes, and investments, resulting in monthly wages four times greater than the country's 450 pesos average, or around $19.

"The earnings of the Opera of the Street are divided among everyone ... including me ... All the artists perform with a subsidy from the Culture Ministry, but as our president has said, salaries do not correspond with the cost of living," Aquino said in his letter.

A government insider said the Playa district's architect and perhaps other officials were opposed to the El Cabildo for various reasons and had apparently used the Reuters story as an excuse to shut it down.

A Cuban economist said El Cabildo's cover charge may have fallen into a gray area in Cuban law. Though private establishments were not prohibited from having cover charges, establishments associated with the Culture Ministry, such as such as El Cabildo, might be more restricted in what they can charge.

HP Blogs - The Five Cs of Change Management - The HP Blog Hub

CIO INSIGHT published an article recently titled IT Change Management: Follow the Four C?s for Success, in which Dan Roberts argued that successful CIOs have to manage four components to achieve success in change management. This was a helpful summary of the things that are needed to successfully drive a change through the organization, but I think that it would have been better with one more C, and that one has to come first.

The four Cs in Dan Robert?s article were:

Commitment. Which he describes as being bound emotionally and intellectually to a course of action. Dan offers helpful advice on how to help staff become committed to supporting the change.
Community. Including the roles of change leader, change agents and change advocates, sometimes formalized as a change management office.
Clarity. Helping people to see why they should change, as well as what change is needed.
Communication. Dan talks about the need for two-way communication, but focusses mainly on the need to get people to listen.

I enjoyed reading Dan?s article and it included lots of great advice.

The additional C that I would add to Dan?s list is Context. The context for a change includes two related areas.

Organizational context. What is the overall mission and vision of the organization, how does the change support these and how does it fit with other changes that are happening?
It is not enough to embark on a single change and drive it through the organization. We need to look deeper into the context to make sure that we are making the right changes to the right things for the right reasons, and that all of the changes we make over a period of time work together to achieve something important.
Before we ask the people who work for us to become committed to something, to form a community, to see why they should change and to communicate with us about the change, we need to make sure that the change is correct for the context. We don?t just want commitment to this one change; we want commitment to the entire vision and mission of the organization, which this change should be helping to deliver.

Personal context. Context also includes an understanding of what the change means personally to the CIO, and how their behavior affects the success of the change.
Mahatma Gandhi summarized the personal aspects of change management when he said ?You must be the change you want to see in the world? and ?An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching.? A great leader doesn?t just describe the change they want others to make; they change themselves and motivate others to follow them.
Understanding the personal context for the change, and ensuring that the culture and behavior of the CIO support the change, not in words but in deeds, is essential to success.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The top Republican and Democrat on Capitol Hill have announced an agreement to keep the government running on autopilot for six months when the current budget year ends on Sept. 30.

The announcements by Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and GOP House Speaker John Boehner are aimed at averting any chance of a government shutdown this fall. The legislation will pass in September.

The deal would also lighten the crush of business in a post-election congressional session agenda that's already overloaded.

"The speaker and I and the president have agreed that we're going to fund the government for the next six months," Reid said. "It'll provide stability for the coming months."

The agreement would fund the government at levels called for by last summer's budget and debt pact between Boehner and President Barack Obama.

While precise details will be ironed out over the August congressional recess, the deal embraces spending at a total annualized rate of $1.047 trillion for the day-to-day operations of Cabinet departments like the Pentagon and other federal agencies.

"We are encouraged that both sides have agreed to resolve this issue without delay," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said in a statement. "The President has made clear that it is essential that the legislation to fund the government adheres to the funding levels agreed to by both parties last year."

That's a retreat for Republicans, who had sought to cut $19 billion below the budget agreement reached last summer with President Barack Obama and shift $8 billion more from domestic agencies to the Pentagon. The alternative of risking a government shutdown just weeks before Election Day was an unacceptable alternative to GOP leaders who want to keep the spotlight off of Congress and on the presidential race in the weeks running up to Nov. 6.

A House GOP leadership aide said the decision to take the issue of a government shutdown "off the table" was intended to keep the larger focus on jobs and the economy, where Republicans think Obama has failed and is most politically vulnerable. The aide required anonymity because he or she was assessing the political considerations of the decision and was not authorized to do so publicly.

The six-month funding bill, known as a "continuing resolution" in Washington parlance, punts a huge number of decisions into the lap of the next Congress and whoever inhabits the White House. If Mitt Romney is president, he has promised immediate 5 percent across-the-board cuts to most domestic appropriations accounts funded by Congress every year. Obama vows to live within the 10-year spending "caps" agreed to last year.

LONDON (AP) ? Mike Oldfield wants to use the Olympics opening ceremony as a rallying cry.

The British musician performed part of his hit "Tubular Bells" live during Friday's spectacular, and says it was an honor ? and a vindication for a much-reviled musical genre: instrumental rock.

"Tubular Bells" was released in 1973 and sold millions. But a few years later the punk movement triggered a backlash against its brand of progressive rock.

Oldfield says it's time for a comeback.

He said Tuesday he hopes to use exposure from the ceremony "as a relaunch for instrumental music ? real music. Let's throw away all the computer software."

The 59-year-old says he felt a "glow of pride" when Danny Boyle asked him to be in the ceremony, which celebrated five decades of British music.
