Tips to Keep Your Business on Track With Proper Scheduling

#1 Consider What is OK to Schedule in Advance
Not everything should be scheduled days or weeks in advance. For example, let?s say it?s Tuesday and you want to schedule a message to post on Facebook on Friday that says, ?Have a nice weekend.? You can bet that?s safe and nothing is going to go wrong with that. You can even post a message a month in advance that says, ?Happy holidays,? or something to that effect, and you won?t have to worry about any problems.

However, scheduling a survey asking, ?What do you think about product X,? a couple of weeks in advance isn?t quite as safe. Why? Well what if from now until the time the survey posts you receive a complaint, or perhaps a number of complaints, over your product. Then you forget that you have scheduled the survey and it posts when you don?t want to be running such a survey.

Tip: There are two types of scheduling you should use. Long term for those messages you are sure you will never need or want to change, and short-term posts for those messages where you may want to make changes.

#2 Scheduling Time is Important
Scheduling times are key to your success. For most countries, the best time to schedule your messages is midweek between Tuesday and Thursday from noon to late afternoon. If you are marketing to existing customers, usually the best times are during the evening and on weekends.

However, there are occasions when you should be less specific about the scheduling time. For example, let?s say you are going to run a one-day sale. Then you should send out the SMS in the morning hours so that those who might want to attend have time to change their plans.

Tip: When you are scheduling think about all of the elements of the message or event. General messages can follow general guidelines. However, specific events the scheduling should be directly related to that event and when you can achieve the maximum response.

#3 Always Consider What?s Happening on a Specific Day
Before you schedule any message, you should know what?s going on during that day. For example on the night the Olympic Games start, you decide to send out a coupon offer ? do you think anyone is going to care? Highly unlikely! Here is another example, you are moving to a new office and you send the message out telling your US customers about this on their election day. No one is going to care and very few will actually read it.

Tip: If you market to an international customer base, you will need to know what is occurring where those customers live. You can schedule differently based on country, region, area, etc.

#4 Be Conscious of Time Zones
When you have customers that live in different time zone, you will want to schedule to everyone so that all of your customers receive the message at a reasonable time.

Tip: You can schedule the same message to be sent at different times so that clients in each time zone receive the message at an appropriate time.

#5 Setup Days You Don?t Send Messages
It?s not always a good idea to send messages all days. For example, if you are distributing a message to a religious country, you probably shouldn?t send out an automated reminder that the contract between you and the other party is over on the Sabbath. It would be better to have that message arrive on a regular workday.

Tip: Know what dates are important and relevant in each of the countries you market to. Then block any dates you feel you it is inappropriate to send messages. Even when you have autoresponder setup for those days, it will simply send it the following day.
